I have hostas in pots of all sizes. On this picture you can see mini Snow Mouse in a 6cm pot and x-large Green Acres in a 45 cm pot.
The x-large ones have to be planted in the garden some day or can be divided.
I made the picture with the Buddha darker because I like the contrast. I bought that head damaged for 0,50 € and planted at Sempervivum inside.

If you plant them in shoes cut a line on the inside where the upper is fixed to the sole and fill in some small stones first. The water can run out and mine grow well in shoes and it looks funny. I'm working in shoe business and can take samples home

Today I built a new stair for my new small hostas that will come soon. Meanwhile it is filled with some pots that will go back in the garden between the planted ones.



Another one will soon replace the white chair. My cat uses this chair to hop into the shed when the weather is not to his liking

Hostas G...My favourite is the big Green Acres which I got from a friend last year. He promised me a big plant and I thought ok, maybe 3-5 eyes...but when I opened his parcel I found a clump with 33 eyes! And the one he has in his yard is three times the size of mine...

You can see it on the right side, it was 5 kg...

Honestly Halina, I would love to have more room in the garden to plant them. They grow better and bigger when they are in the soil. I made a little experiment last year with two same sized divisions of Stiletto. One I planted in the garden and the other stayed all summer long in the pot. In late autumn I dug out the garden Stiletto to compare them...

Zuzanna...Problems with slugs and snails? Yes, last year I had so many that they even came to the potted hostas:-(
The big watchsnail was sleeping throughout summer
I have three neglected gardens around my own little piece of land and there they are multiplying like crazy. This year I will try to work with slug pellets all along the fence, maybe that helps...





They even left traces on my Japanese Maple...



Siberia, thanks again for your kind commets...I'm not one for the usual garden gnome, but I collect stones from the surrounding fields and from the river or get old metall pieces from the local waste dealer, broken pots are also a nice decoration...

I was wondering - which country are you from? Germany or Austria? We are quite far from spring here yet...
I really like your garden details - they are quite varied (stones, shoes, statues and the like) but go very well together

Now a painful issue - how much time does it take you to water all of your pots in hot weather?

I'm from Germany and normally we are also far from spring end of January. But in the region I'm living (360 meters above sea level) we had a really strange winter so far. The sky went grey in November and it is raining nearly every day since. The garden is like a swamp and nothing has the chance to get dry.
Last year we had a frost period with snow and -20°C end of January to mid of February. That was better because the days were sunny and the glittering snow is so nice. But it was nice to be outside for a few hours yesterday and do some work in the garden. I miss this a lot in winter.

Watering in summer is not such a big problem as you would think. I have a well in the garden and a small electric pump so I can use that or the rainwater barrels. The hostas are close together in my small garden so not much water gets lost on things I don't want to grow. The wonderful thing about hostas is that they also help fighting weeds. Since I have them I have only small weeds in spring but nearly nothing comes out under their broad leaves in summer

hostaworld and hostaparadise have such a nice selection of hostas. I can not stop looking at them and of course buy some. I also have found a small dealer in Germany and one in Austria. They have nice healthy plants and I like to buy their own small collections who are called Chiemsee and Oberland. You may have noticed a few Chiemsee hostas when I showed my C...Chiemsee Blaue Taube is one I really love. But my best contact is my friend Renaat from Belgium. He has a big collection of wonderful old hostas and is always up to date with new ones because he knows all the hybridizers in Belgium and the Netherlands, including Jeroen Linnemann and Danny van Eechaute.
I had a Facebook contact with Rosliny od Ogrodnika in Poland and maybe I will buy a few heuchera and ferns there.

Those stairs are not homemade, unfortunately I am not so talented with saws but I fixed them together all alone and that is how far my technical skills go

Hi Ewa,

this little plant has been there for around 10 or more years. Gets a lot of shade from the Japanese maple and a magnolia tree and I did not notice that it really looks nice with Wide Brim.
But I will have a look at it this year and if I put some slug pallets in this part of the garden hopefully it will look much better this summer.
