Dear shadow- and fern-gardeners, as i do know, it is not always easy to distinguish between ferns which do belong to the same genus.
I will show some photos of
Polystichum braunii which i took on 22.06.2023 in the gorge
Badl-Klamm at the border of my home town Frohnleiten.
The imaged individual was transplanted to there by me in about 10 years ago (or a little earlier). I took it from a wet place in a valley somewhat western of Frohnleiten, and planted it at another wet site in the gorge. Later i translocated it once again just a few meters, since the place might have been too wet, because water seeps from the slope.
In late winter this year i took it again to another place close by, as wild animals changed their usual path, and trampled on the fern. So this was (at least) the third transplantation for the plant. As i visited it after a long while, i was happy to see how good it looks now, and took some photos for you.
I hope you can see the charcteristics of
Polystichum braunii so you can recognize and separate from other Polystichum species'.
Maybe i will upload some photos of Polystichum aculeatum later on, so you may compare the appearance.
